Bringing It Downtown is a whole lot of fun!!

I was invited by Downtown Fredericton to ‘bring it downtown’ and try new things. Although I had thought I’d seen and done everything downtown I am happy to report I was wrong! I discovered a source for overall well-being, new cuisine, delicious drink, and fun shopping.

My first stop was at Satori ~ Centre for Well-Being located at 441 King Street (above Savage bike shop) where I met with Stephanie Guitar for an Ayurvedic consultation. Stephanie is an Ayurvedic Practitioner, massage therapist, yoga specialist and owner of Satori. The Karma ShopAyurveda is known as the worlds oldest medical system and uses food, lifestyle and herbal remedies as medicine based on your specific needs. I highly recommend you check out these services for yourself. Also interesting to note that besides offering yoga classes, massage, physiotheraphy, etc Satori has its own Karma Shop offering yoga clothes, artistic greeting cards, oils, spices, soaps, teas, herbs and much more!

Last Friday night I went downtown to enjoy the Moonlight Madness event and experienced/explored more new things. couch 020I shopped at Endeavours/ThinkPlay and was surprised to find that they have so much more to offer than just the paints and canvasses! The candy counter offered something for everyone’s tastes and I found lots of unique toys that I just haven’t seen anywhere else in the city. I was able to pick up a few more Christmas gifts which I know my neices will love. Everyone at the store was helpful & friendly!

I dined at Naru Japanese Cuisine restaurant and experienced sushi for the first time. The server, Heidi, was helpful and made great suggestions from the menu. I loved the Gyoza! and was seriously satisfied after the Portebello tempura, Blue Mountain roll and Veg Caterpillar roll. Delicious!

For dessert I ventured down to the Corked Wine Bar on Regent Street and was treated to a wonderful glass of red wine! couch 032Cupcake Merlot was the suggestion for a smooth rich taste and it didn’t disappoint. The atmosphere of the bar offers great charm and provides something out of the ordinary. My friends and I are already planning our next visit.

I strongly recommend you challenge yourself to ‘bring it downtown’ too and explore something new! There are tons of options and I’ll help you pick something out if you need some suggestions!

Lots of music happening in Fredericton this week…

I trust you all enjoyed your weekend and had a chance to take in some live music somewhere along the way! There is no shortage of opportunities to find a live music experience this coming week – there is something for everyone!

You can make Tuesday (Nov 6th) terrific by swinging by Dolan’s Pub where musicians will offer up their talents and time to raise money in support of those affected by the fire which destroyed the building containing Isaac’s Way and a rooming house (staff and residents). Grand Theft Bus, She Roars, Four-Twenty, Eric of Many Hats, LOLA, Jaclyn Reinhart, Rich Gloade, Mumble, Jayde Hunter, Evans McGee, Anthony Gray, Angelina Boucher, Sasha Smith and Kahler Legacy will be providing 12 hours of entertainment and it all starts at 11:30AM – great food, good tunes, fun times!

Wednesday will be wicked with Death From Above 1979 performing at the Boyce Farmers Market“… a two piece, two friends; Jesse F Keeler and Sebastien Grainger that live in a funeral parlour in Toronto. To hear them on record, it is hard to believe that the only instruments being played (with the exception of the odd Flute sample or Moog oscillation) are the bass and drums.”

Thursday (Nov 8th) has a couple of great options for you to consider.
The Once will be performing at The Cedar Tree Cafe Thursday night – “Bringing with them “vocal harmonies thick enough to stand on,” Armed with bouzouki, banjo, unaccompanied ballads and shanties, the band has quickly earned their place amongst Newfoundland’s finest musical talent. The four-time MusicNL award winners have delighted crowds at The Vancouver Olympics, the Junos in Saint John’s, Newfoundland, and most places in-between, and this fall affair will show you why!

Over at The Fredericton Playhouse on Thursday night you can find Ian Sherwood and Coco Love Alcorn – “two ECMA nominated artists are ready to roll into your town. Seamlessly blending their individual catalogs as they present a dynamic show; with this feisty duo there’s no need for a band. In an evening full of harmonies, humour, and a zest for engaging in the moment; a sense of adventure is created by these two troubadours. Whether you’re already a fan of either or new to both, come expecting to hear folk, pop, jazz, soul and storytelling at it’s best as Ian and Coco roll into town.”

So there you have just a few of the options available for live music in Fredericton. Check out the calendar on the side bar for other options and let me know if there are any events missing from the calendar.

Let the music run through you too!
