SUMMARY:Dee Hernandez: A Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald
DESCRIPTION:Often cited as the ‘First Lady Of Song’\, or referred to as the ‘Queen Of Jazz’\, Ella Fitzgerald rewrote the book of jazz vocals throughout a storied career that spanned over 50 years. Her groundbreaking approach gave birth to the style of singing referred to as ‘scat’\, which fearlessly bound together tone\, rhythm\, timing and improvisation. \nThis February\, Atlantic Canada’s own jazz powerhouse Dee Hernandez will honour Fitzgerald’s treasured legacy with a heartfelt tribute tour during Black History Month 2026. Being a lifelong fan of the work of Fitzgerald\, Hernandez and her combo of accomplished jazz veterans will channel the soul\, swing\, and spirit of one of her greatest musical idols. \n“Ella has always been more than an inspiration to me\, not only as a vocalist\, but as a human being\,” says Hernandez. “She carried herself with grace and integrity during one of the most difficult times in history\, never compromising her values. Despite the racial tensions of her era\, she refused to perform for segregated audiences and stood firmly for equality. To me\, Ella represents the true power of music—not just to entertain\, but to transform and unite.” \nAudiences can expect an evening of timeless standards\, from the silky Misty\, to the playful Mack the Knife and the showstopping How High the Moon\, among many more classics from the Fitzgerald songbook brought vividly to life.

SUMMARY:Dave Gunning - Field Notes Release
DESCRIPTION:Dave Gunning is an east coast treasure. An award winning songwriter who graces his storytelling with vivid characters washed in humour and humility. With a charm that swings high from the rafters of your heart\, this Pictou born talent has been winning over Fredericton audiences for years. This winter he returns to the Charlotte Street Arts Centre\, Feb 27\, to introduce fans to his latest release\, Field Notes. \nRecorded in Australia\, Field Notes is Gunning at his barest and most stripped down. Placed in non sterile surroundings\, and delivered unfettered and honestly\, Dave gives these songs a special level of intimacy. Armed with little more than a mic\, guitar\, and this fresh batch of great material…the effect will be undeniable–the show\, unforgettable.
