SUMMARY:Hypos at the Hop!
DESCRIPTION:Fredericton’s top live act\, Josh Bravener and The Hypochondriacs will deliver a high-energy night of music at Fredericton High School’s Tom Morrison Theatre on April 17th in support of producing their much anticipated 3rd album. As a twist\, this fundraiser also offers an opportunity to give back. \nEarlier this year Josh Bravener and The Hypochondriacs recorded the album at Joel Plaskett’s Fang Studios in Dartmouth and now they need to raise funds to complete the process – mixing\, mastering and manufacturing – and want to do something special as a way of giving back. \n“We are really proud of this album\, the songs are some of my best\, but like everything else\, this one will end up costing more than our previous releases\,” explained Bravener.  “With the funds raised at this show\, we’ll be able to cover some of those costs and at the same time\, lend a hand to an up-and-coming act\, so we’ve invited a group from FHS to join us.” \nWarming up the stage that evening will be a set by The Romans\, a powerhouse rock act made up of FHS students\, and recommended by Greg Webber\, the head of the FHS Music Department. Last summer they headlined a show at the Charlotte St. Arts Centre. This concert will allow them the chance to perform on a large stage with professional production and lighting.

SUMMARY:Owen Steel
DESCRIPTION:Owen Steel’s music lives in a unique place. His brave style of songwriting clearly comes from an uncompromising vision that explores the chasm between the beauty of nature and the wry cynicism of modern life. A place where sweeping soundscapes marry up with his hushed and confessional style of delivery. Where Owen’s music takes you is a place where time seems to stand still\, even for a brief moment. \nOwen Steel is a gifted artist\, and this promises to be a very special evening. It’s been a while since Owen has played Fredericton\, and where he is touring his latest release\, COMBE\, we are expecting his loyal following to come out in full support.

SUMMARY:Devin Cuddy with support from Josh Bravener
DESCRIPTION:The Wilser’s Room\nDoors 6:30PM / Show 7:00PM \n$20 adv / $25 at the door  \nDevin Cuddy is a singer songwriter based in Toronto. From an early age he was drawn to music of the past. While sifting through his father’s (Jim Cuddy of Blue Rodeo) CD collection\, he found the music of Louis Armstrong and New Orleans blues piano players like Dr John and Professor Longhair. After attending York University for Jazz Piano\, Devin starting hanging around Toronto’s Cameron House\, where he was inspired by the local singer songwriter scene. He began his performing career alone at the piano\, playing every Wednesday night. It was during this time that he began writing and testing out his own material on an ever growing crowd. Drawing from inspirations like Randy Newman and Steve Earle\, Devin started to build up a catalogue of his own material. \nWhen the Cameron house decided to start a label to showcase local artists\, Devin was quickly recruited. His first release\, Volume One\, was released in late 2012 and was nominated for a Juno. The record was a blend of his love for New Orleans blues and outlaw country. In support of the release\, Devin and his band headed out on a cross country tour opening for his father’s band\, Blue Rodeo. “This was a tour that really shaped my band\, and taught us a lot of about how to be a band and succeed on stage” Devin said “I’m very lucky and grateful to have had such an opportunity at such an early point in my career”. \nLearn more & listen here: https://www.devincuddy.com/

SUMMARY:Theresa Malenfant & Scott Medford at Water Street Dinner Theatre
DESCRIPTION:ECMA winner Theresa Malenfant and renowned guitarist Scott Medford have become one of the most popular blues duo acts in the Atlantic Provinces. They have been performing together in a band for years\, but decided to work as a duo only 6 years ago. In that short time they managed to win second place in an International Blues Challenge (IBC) held in Memphis Tennessee.\n\nTheresa and Scott have an intuitive way of working with each other\, and the mutual respect and admiration for the other’s abilities is evident from their stage performance.\n\nTheresa Malenfant has earned the nickname “Queen Bee of the Blues”. When you hear the first note you’ll know why. And she personally selected Scott Medford to be her guitarist. That speaks volumes about his level of playing.\n\nAn incredible evening of music you’ll not soon forget!

SUMMARY:Stang's Swang - A Tribute to Stevie Ray Vaughan
DESCRIPTION:It’s one thing to know all the words and how to play the chords\, but in order to truly capture the essence of Stevie Ray Vaughan\, you need to somehow harness the power and passion that his playing was all about – the emotional range of extreme joy to the pain of the blues\, and all points in between. When Stevie Ray Vaughan disciples Connor Fox and Jonnie Price get together to pay tribute to their guitar hero\, a special kind of energy takes over the room. This is an intense form of dialogue between two gifted guitarists playing their hearts out\, while Jamie Guitar (bass) and Andrew DeMerchant (drums) drive the heartbeat of the project in their respective roles as Double Trouble. \nSeeing is believing! Catch it live\, March 12th at Dolan’s Pub. \nDoors at 7PM/Show at 7:30PM\nGeneral seating

His father\, Dutch Mason may have baptized him in the blues\, but Garrett’s take on the genre is completely his own. His approach to blues guitar is where Garrett separates himself from the pack…inventive\, distinct and exciting. We expect a ‘sell out’ on this one. \nDoors @ 7pm – Show starts at 7:30pm

SUMMARY:Lennie Gallant\, The Innkeeper's Christmas
DESCRIPTION:PEI’s celebrated singer songwriter Lennie Gallant is bringing his ever-popular festive show “The Innkeeper’s Christmas 2024” to set the right tone for our holiday season! \nLennie’s Christmas album of 11 original songs received much praise and critical acclaim. Canadian music reviewer/author Bob Mersereau said\, “I always make a point of listening to many new Christmas albums each year\, and this is one of the best I’ve heard in years\, and certainly one of the premiere sets of new tunes in a long time…I hope he’s learning every one of these songs for the show!” He definitely has! The title song “Christmas Day on Planet Earth” and its accompanying video is becoming a holiday standard sung not only by Gallant\, but many choirs as well. \nLennie has performed his Innkeeper’s Christmas show for several years now to sold out crowds. Every year the songwriter updates and adds new songs\, stories and arrangements to his extremely popular holiday offering keeping it fresh and exciting\, while maintaining the spirit of a holiday celebration with a difference. This multimedia version\, along with his band consisting of partner Acadian star Patricia Richard\, the wonderful New Brunswick violinist Marie Andrée Gaudet and 22-year-old piano marvel Julien Robichaud promises to be the best one yet. You can expect an evening full of original Christmas songs\, (along with some traditional ones)\, a lot of laughs\, great tales\, and occasional surprises that will definitely put you in a Yuletide state of mind. Come join us for a Christmas concert unlike any you have experienced before!

SUMMARY:Terra Spencer\, Album Release Show
DESCRIPTION:Is Nova Scotian funeral director-turned-songwriter Terra Spencer “the Canadian Carole King”? Sunset\, her upcoming fourth solo album\, makes a strong case for it. Rich with the ‘70s wood-paneled warmth of the records she discovered in her grandparents’ basement\, Sunset will make its debut in fall 2024 with a list of cross-Canada solo tour dates. The album features a host of Canadian stars from coast to coast (Stephen Fearing\, Ian Sherwood\, and Matt Andersen are on the roster) performing the signature heart-charged songs that have endeared Terra to audiences and fellow artists alike. Fresh from touring with folk icon David Francey after contributing to his Juno-winning album The Breath Between\, Terra brings her deft fingerstyle guitar\, church bench piano\, and butterscotch voice to the stage\, mixed with East Coast charm\, innate storytelling\, and disarming wit. \n“The real deal” – Ron Sexsmith

SUMMARY:Leeroy Stagger
DESCRIPTION:Waking up at ungodly hours would kick the shit out of most of us. But if you’re Leeroy Stagger\, you breathe. You pick up a guitar. And you greet the coming dawn with words\, music\, and grace. \n“Most of these songs were composed in the wee hours of a new day. The witching hours\, you could call them. Where my mind is active and there’s a peace and spirit I embrace in the quiet of life.” \nThat liminal space is exactly what Stagger would call his 3 AM Revelations—and there could be no better title for his 13th full recording. For it’s in that sacred and moonlit window that brought forth his strongest\, most passionate songwriting to date. \nIn these musical revelations—recorded in Stagger’s new Victoria home studio made of “beautiful rough-cut wood”—we hear gratitude\, struggle\, rebel rousing\, balladry\, compassion\, and humour. We go to worlds as small as the back of lousy Dodge Dart\, and worlds as vast as the Alberta Skies and as ethereal as human connection. \n“This is a record of the human spirit. Of suffering and joy. Of heroes and everyday stories. And of addiction and redemption.”

SUMMARY:Rory Taillon Live in Fredericton
DESCRIPTION:Rory returns to Fredericton Aug 28th\, for a special one night only performance at The Muse. **Note the 8:30 start time. \nOttawa singer/songwriter Rory Taillon has gigged from coast to coast a number of times\, and those who have witnessed one of his past Fredericton stops will tell you\, he’s not just an entertainer—he’s a true\, and proven\, performer. When Rory Taillon sings\, and delivers with his trademark power and passion\, the world around him stops to listen. It’s just that simple. \n“His croon enters your cocoon and he asks questions maybe others are asking as the drifting lulls us; the Whys of this time; in the case of Rory\, the whys of touring\, of writing\, recording\, the value of song\, of life as an artist. And yet the value lies in his voice quietening those other voices\, squeezing them out. Contemplating his doubt overcomes our doubt. In his voice we hear possibility\, in his doubt we hear hope.” – SlowCity.ca
