DESCRIPTION:Harry Manx has been dubbed an “essential link” between the music of East and West\, creating musical short stories that wed the tradition of the Blues with the depth of classical Indian ragas. His unique sound is bewitching and deliciously addictive to listen to. \nBorn on the Isle of Man\, Manx spent his childhood in Canada and left in his teens to live in Europe\, Japan\, India and Brazil. He honed his hypnotic live show on street corners\, in cafes\, bars and at festivals. But it was Indian music that captured his attention and in the mid 80s he began a five-year tutelage with Rajasthani Indian musician Vishwa Mohan Bhatt (Grammy winner with Ry Cooder for A Meeting by the River). Receiving the gift of Bhatt’s custom-made\, self-designed Mohan Veena (a 20-stringed sitar/guitar hybrid) was the catalyst for Harry to forge a new path with his now signature east-meets-west style of music. While the mohan veena itself is beyond exotic\, Manx uses it within traditional Western sound structures. \nA successful touring performer\, Manx has brought his “breathtaking” solo shows across Canada and into the USA\, Australia\, and Europe. He has appeared at many prestigious festivals\, world-class theatres\, concert halls and infamous Blues clubs around the globe. Playing the Mohan Veena\, lap steel\, harmonica\, stomp box\, and banjo\, Manx quickly envelops the audience into what has been dubbed “the Harry Zone” with his warm vocals and the hauntingly beautiful melodies of his original songs. \nIt’s in the live setting\, Manx says\, that the bridge between “heavenly” India and “earthy” American blues is most effectively built. “Indian music moves inward\,” he explains. “It’s traditionally used in religious ceremonies and meditation\, because it puts you into this whole other place. But Western music has the ability to move out\, into celebration and dance. So when we play the Indian stuff on stage\, it has the tendency to draw people into something really deep; they’ll get kind of quiet and spacey. Then we’ll play some more Western music\, and it grounds them once more\, they sort of come out of the mood the Indian music had put them in and get into the performance. I love to see that working — that effect on the audience. My goal has always been to draw the audience as deep as possible into the music.” \nManx is a prolific artist\, releasing nine albums in a eight-year span with no signs of stopping. He has received seven Maple Blues Awards and his mantel shelf also holds honours from the Canadian Folk Music Awards\, Vancouver magazine Georgia Straight\, and the South Australia Blues Society. He received CBC Radio’s Great Canadian Blues Awards for 2007 and his albums have garnered five Juno nominations. \nBlend Indian folk melodies with slide guitar blues\, add a sprinkle of gospel and some compelling grooves and you’ll get Manx’s unique “mysticssippi” flavour. DESCRIPTION:Since making her debut with 2002’s Failer\, she’s spent the 21st century occupying the grey area between genres\, swirling together her own mix of alt-country\, folk\, and heartland rock & roll. It’s a sound that has earned its creator more than a half-dozen Juno nominations\, as well as Top 40 success on both sides of the Canadian/American border. Now in her third decade as an artist\, Kathleen Edwards has done more than carry the torch of songwriting heroes like Tom Petty\, Neil Young\, and Lucinda Williams — she’s opened the door for others\, too\, inspiring a new generation of artists who\, like her\, blur the boundaries between genre and generation. \nA native of Ottawa\, Ontario\, Edwards was still in her early 20s when she released the critically-acclaimed Failer. The album’s warm\, woozy sound — crystallized on radio hits like “Six O’Clock News” — quickly turned her into one of the era’s alt-country heroes. From the very start\, though\, Edwards’ music seemed to exist somewhere out of time\, resisting categorization even as Failer received a Juno nomination for “Roots & Traditional Album of the Year.” \n“No one knew what to call my type of music back then\,” she says of those early years. “The Americana genre didn’t exist yet\, so they couldn’t categorize me. I just made the kind of music I wanted to make.” \nEdwards continued blazing her own trail with follow-up albums like Back to Me and Asking for Flowers. By the time Voyageur arrived in 2012\, Americana very much did exist as a genre\, and Edwards found herself riding a newfound commercial peak. The album reached Number 2 on the Canadian Albums Chart and Number 3 on Billboard’s Folk Albums chart. Even so\, a busy decade on the road had left her exhausted. After touring in support of Voyageur’s release\, Edwards left the music business altogether and moved to suburban Ontario\, where she opened a coffee shop called — defiantly — “Quitters.” \n“Before I turned 30\, I toured the world and put out nearly four records\, performed on TV\, and had an incredible run\,” she says of her first 10 years in the spotlight. “What’s interesting is that I walked away from all of it\, too — and when I came back\, I felt better than the person who put out Failer.” \nBy the late 2010s\, Edwards felt recharged and revitalized. When a phone call arrived from Maren Morris\, who was looking for songwriting partners for a new project\, Edwards jumped at the chance to collaborate. The two musicians co-wrote “Good Woman\,” which appeared on Morris’ Grammy-nominated album Girl in 2019. Back home in Canada\, Edwards continued to write new material\, eventually partnering with producer Ian Fitchuk for the album Total Freedom. Released in 2020\, the album expanded her sound and her audience\, boosted by two hit songs — “Options Open” and “Hard on Everyone” — that both reached the Top 30 on the Triple A chart in America. Total Freedom didn’t just mark her return to the music industry. It was a rebirth\, too. \nWhat’s next? New music\, of course. She and Grammy-winner Jim Scott co-produced and released an album called Covers\, which pays homage to some of her songwriting heroes – Tom Petty\, REM\, John Prine\, Bruce Springsteen\, et al. Edwards remains a fan of “ripping guitar riffs and good songs\,” and she’s combining both into a follow-up album co-produced by Grammy-winners Jason Isbell and Gena Johnson that will showcase her legacy as well as her evolution. \nShe maintains a presence on the road\, too\, playing her own gigs one minute and sharing shows with her heroes — including Willie Nelson\, John Fogerty\, and Bob Dylan — the next. \n“The amount of things I’ve gone through might make someone else quit…but quitting doesn’t quite do it for me\,” she says. “I can’t help but want to write great songs\, connect with people\, and see what’s ahead. I don’t love looking behind\, even though it’s one of the ways we can see what we’ve done\, so I’m looking forward.”

His quest to become a blues musician started at a very early age; being surrounded by music blues music\, Garrett’s favorite tapes at 3 years old were Canned Heat and Buddy Rich. What really sealed the deal for Garrett to become a blues guitarist came after watching a video of Stevie Ray Vaughn “Live At the El Mocambo” – he was hooked. \nHis dad\, Dutch Mason\, stopped playing guitar before Garrett was born due to crippling arthritis in his hands. Although he was not able to teach his son to play\, he has certainly been able to teach Garrett the structure of the Blues and to influence him about the resulting sound. Surrounded by his father’s peers\, Garrett has had the benefit of hearing and learning from a wide variety of musical talent. The late Rick Jeffery was a great inspiration to Garrett; they would talk and play for hours together. Rick once said “Garrett is the only guitar player I know that can play Albert Collins’ style down to a T”. The combination of his father’s advice\, Jeffery’s guidance and his own natural talents provide that special brew for Garrett to become the musical influence he is destined to be. \nGarrett would be the first to tell you that riding the coat tails of others won’t take you very far in this business\, but striving to be truly original is the secret to longevity and lasting success. Garrett launched his debut CD I’m Just a Man at the 2004 Harvest Jazz and Blues festival in Fredericton\, New Brunswick to a sold out crowd.
