This February, Atlantic Canada’s powerhouse Dee Hernandez returns to honour Fitzgerald’s treasured legacy with her acclaimed Ella Fitzgerald Tribute Tour during Black History Month. Following sold-out performances across Atlantic Canada in 2026, Hernandez continues to captivate audiences with heartfelt interpretations of Fitzgerald’s timeless songbook. A lifelong admirer of Ella Fitzgerald, Hernandez and her ensemble of accomplished Jazz veterans channel the soul, swing, and spirit of one of her greatest musical idols.

The performance is a special tribute to the music of Ella Fitzgerald, but Hernandez is quick to point out that she is not an Ella impersonator. While staying true to the songs, these performances are further infused with Dee’s power and passions as a vocalist.

“I get to play. I get to improvise. I get to surprise myself,” says Hernandez. “And for a few minutes the song belongs to me too.”

Audiences can expect an evening of timeless standards, from the silky Misty, to the playful Mack the Knife and the show stopping How High the Moon, along with many more classics from the Fitzgerald songbook brought vividly to life.

“I’ve been thinking about ‘Summertime’–a song that has been following me through different chapters of my life. I first performed it in my early twenties on Canadian Idol. Now, coming back to it as a woman and an artist, with so much more life behind me, I hear it differently,” explains Hernandez. “My voice has changed, my perspective has changed, and yet somehow the song still feels like home. It feels ‘full circle’.”
