Nashwaak MusicFest – August 3-5

Why not attend the 1st Annual Nashwaak MusicFest and enjoy great music and celebrate the river!!!

Nashwaak Music Festival is offering a complete 3 day package for a great price ($40)!
25 groups and artists
free on-site camping
opportunity to jam with main-stage & local musicians in the Jam Tent
an artist village
giant childrens play area
variety of foods
water fun in the Nashwaak

Mike Arnold (of Hardcore Troubadour fame) provided some insight into the festival he has founded together with Fred McNeil.

As a music lover and after attending a few festivals Mike got some ideas of how he’d like to do things and he wanted to provide something new for the area. Fred McNeil from Durham Bridge shares Mike’s love for music & the outdoors and he owns a 27 acre field! Since partnering they have been surprised by the involvement and help they’ve received from the local community – everything from heavy machinery, a stage frame, carpentry, advertising, and overall general support. They’ve learned that they could NOT do this without everyone involved!

Their formula for establishing a great music festival
= (tons of work X 2) + (multi-tasking X 3)
The stage is almost ready!

this is what I consider MY dream vacation. We hope everyone will feel that way when they’re here
– Mike Arnold

Featuring Rock Island Blues Band, Ryan Cook, Jens Jeppesen, Modern Grass Quartet, Southern Drive, Three Troubs, Grasse Roots, Where Rivers Meet, Glamour Puss, Mike Biggar, Backroads, Sissy and the Hobos, Steve Waylon, Jon Soderman Band and more!!!

Music at the Highland Games?

Yes! It’s true! Along with the bagpipes and pipe bands there will be music in the Ceilidh Tent on the grounds of Government House over the next 3 days. Check out the complete schedule on their website – just click here: New Brunswick Highland Games

Someone I recommend you check out is Katherine Moller. Katherine plays with passion and an enthusiasm that is contagious! Her hardwork has been rewarded with ECMA and MusicNB Award nominations and her career continues to gain speed. She will be playing Friday night at DJ Purdy’s (Delta Hotel) between 8-10 pm and Saturday afternoon in the Ceilidh Tent (Government House grounds) 2-2:50pm.

Thunderin’ Thursdays!

There is something about a thursday … the energy of the weekend is oh so close at hand and you want to stay up just a little bit later. It is turning into one of my favourite nights of the week for live music!
Snooty Fox has a music series happening every Thursday, Mama’s Pub hosts live entertainment every Thursday night and all the usual suspects like Dolan’s Pub and The Capital Complex make sure you have lots of options if you want to get up off the couch!
Glad I had the chance to get over to Snooty Fox last Thursday night to catch Miss Quincy and the Showdown. What energy and attitude! Vocals were great and the rythm section was tight. Besides their great sound I was impressed with their merchandise selection – who else sells onsies and preserves?

Last night (again on a Thursday!) I made my way across the mighty Saint John River to Mama’s Pub where I was treated to the great harmonies and full sound of Graydon James & the Young Novelists. I recommend you get out to experience them for yourself as they roll through from Toronto again in August.

So where will I find you next Thursday night? I hear Country Fest might have something good to offer!
