Diane London Award is presented to Local Music Promoter as River Jam celebrated another successful event with close to a thousand people enjoying the annual summer celebration of music along the Saint John River. During the evening of music and in between sets of the 20 local bands, a special award was presented. Each year during River Jam, a special award is presented, in honour of Diane London, beloved diva of the Downtown Blues Band, whose final performance was at River Jam 2004, before losing her battle to cancer. The award is presented to a local musician, artist, or arts related woman with a creative spirit and talent, who gives of themselves to the community and who exemplify the spirit and character of Diane.
The 2016 recipient for the Diane London award is Emma Chevarie, well known on the local music scene from her years of volunteering at just about every musical event in the city and for her blog. Emma shares her love of music with Music Runs Through It, her blog, and great resource to know where to find musical entertainment in Fredericton. Emma also brings in touring musicians to the city and showcases local talent whether it’s a house concert or her new series at Corked Wine Bar. Emma’s always got a smile on her face and her positive attitude, her deep love for music and community, and support of live music and local performers would make Diane proud. Emma was nominated by a number of community members and she was chosen by a selection committee. A presentation of the award plaque and a cash prize was made just before the Downtown Blues Band’s set during River Jam.
