Jazz at Purdy’s with Geordie Haley and Friends

Guitarist and composer…teacher and improviser…Geordie Haley returns to where it all began for him musically when he comes home in February for a highly anticipated return to the Delta Fredericton, where he has performed many times throughout his colorful and creative career as one of Canada’s most respected jazz guitar players.

Whether it’s exploring various jazz forms or experiments in modern classical themes through electronic sounds, Haley’s seamless connection of all these influences have allowed him to come up with his own unique style and voice through his instrument.

Joining Haley for this incredible night of music will be notable local musicians Michael Doherty on keys, Jason Flores on bass, and Karl Gans hits the kit, so you’re guaranteed a night of premiere musicianship while experiencing a true homecoming for one of Fredericton’s finest musical sons.

Making this night even more special is, of course, the venue itself. For many years DJ Purdy’s was Fredericton’s unofficial home for jazz music, so to see these performers return to light up this particular stage, makes this gig extra special for jazz lovers in the city.

Theresa Malenfant & Scott Medford (Saint John)

ECMA winner Theresa Malenfant and renowned guitarist Scott Medford have become one of the most popular blues duo acts in the Atlantic Provinces. They have been performing together in a band for years, but decided to work as a duo only 6 years ago. In that short time they managed to win second place in an International Blues Challenge (IBC) held in Memphis Tennessee.

Theresa and Scott have an intuitive way of working with each other, and the mutual respect and admiration for the other’s abilities is evident from their stage performance.

Theresa Malenfant has earned the nickname “Queen Bee of the Blues”. When you hear the first note you’ll know why. And she personally selected Scott Medford to be her guitarist. That speaks volumes about his level of playing.

An incredible evening of music you’ll not soon forget!

Garrett Mason in Saint John

Yes, Garrett Mason carries the soulful, blues lineage that is rightfully attached to his family name. As the son of Dutch Mason, a man affectionately known as the ‘Prime Minister of Canadian Blues’, understandably there is an expected level of excellence that would be fused to his musical progeny. It comes with the territory.
Fortunately Garrett not only delivers on that promise, but musically he takes it to another level all together. As a solo artist, Garrett has been forging his own legend as one of the most exciting musicians in Canada…period, and is widely recognized as an innovator on the guitar. Combine his skills not only as a musician, but as a gifted songwriter as well, and it’s easy to understand why so many are raving about Garrett Mason’s live show. It is a complete thrill ride.
There are many guitarists, who consider Garrett their favorite guitarist. Come out to see why. If it’s your first Garrett Mason show, it won’t be your last.

Campbell & Johnston in Saint John

Campbell & Johnston at Water Street Dinner Theatre
presented by The MRTI Agency
Thursday, February 22, 2024
Doors at 7PM. Show at 7:30PM

Christine Campbell and Blake Johnston are respective powerhouses of the guitar, and their commitment to the instrument is executed through a pair of true, rock n roll hearts. A Campbell and Johnston show is not just a conversation between two instruments–its two souls communicating through blistering riffs and fearless soloing. Meanwhile, Christine and Blake get behind the material with vocals ranging from sweet to monumental. Campbell and Johnson pepper their shows with a mix of potent originals, and a walk through the classic rock songbook, where Deep Purple and The Allman Brothers are fair game.

With opening sets for artists like Steve Earle and Bob Segar, and a mantle full of industry awards under their belts, it’s no wonder why maritime fans are singing their praises. Come to Water Street Dinner Theatre this February, and prepare to be blown away by the power of a Campbell and Johnston performance.
