Travelling show makes a stop in Fredericton

12-Fred-Eaglesmith

Get yourself to the Charlotte Street Arts Centre on Thursday! The tireless troubadour Fred Eaglesmith is parking his travelling show for the night and you don’t want to miss it. Fred is a Canadian alternative country singer-songwriter raised in a farming family in Ontario. At 15 he hopped a freight train out West and began writing songs and performing. He has put out 20 albums over 30+ years and continues to deliver 200+ performances a year!

He is known for writing songs about machines or vehicles, including songs about trains, tractors, trucks, cars, and engines. Rural life, dogs, guns, drinking and farming/ranching are other common themes. Many of his songs are about failing farms and small businesses. Down and out characters dealing with loss of love or livelihood, and quirky rural folk also populate his songs.

Tickets are almost gone so do not hesitate – get your tickets HERE

Plan to get to Charlotte Street Arts Centre early (5-8PM) to enjoy Picaroons’ Harvest Ale Celebration – hang out with their favourite farmer friends, sample various batches of this year’s Harvest Ale, eat some Harvest Grub from Real Food Connections and Milda’s, and take in some Harvest tunes being served up by Josh Bravener! This is a free event, no admission is required.

Norma MacDonald in Fredericton Oct 1st

Fellow Music Fans –

This week marks the beginning of something exciting in Fredericton! Music Runs Through It has found a home for it’s new Music Series lined up at Corked Wine Bar.

Norma_sideKicking off the series is ECMA and Music Nova Scotia nominee Norma MacDonald, on tour with a new CD release. Come for a night of great folk-roots music in an intimate setting in Fredericton’s beautiful downtown. The show on Thursday (Oct 1st) starts at 7:30pm, with a suggested cover of $10 at the door. Corked Wine Bar is located at 83 Regent Street (across from Snooty Fox).

Fredericton last heard Norma live approximately 5 years ago at the UNB Grad House on campus, and she immediately had the audience drawn into her songs. She has since been working hard at her craft and is now bringing her latest project to us.

Norma MacDonald epitomizes the folk-roots genre. Managing to seamlessly meld her innate old-school country sensibilities with her contemporary influences (Wilco, Patty Griffin, Springsteen), her music is grounded, authentic and lyrically sophisticated. She has a voice of gold and is a natural, musical storyteller.

Norma MacDonald was born and raised in Cape Breton, now living in Halifax. She likes Gram Parsons records, talking to strangers, potato chips, David Lynch movies and swimming in the ocean. Her fourth album, “Burn the Tape’s”, is a sonic conglomeration of these affections. From the summertime, old-friend nostalgia of the opening track “Company” to the quirky, unsettling country-noir of “Lighten Up” (a duet with former Guthries baritone, Gabe Minnikin), to the dark, orchestral Springsteen homage “To Nebraska”, ‘Burn the Tapes’ plays like the soundtrack to a long night time drive that’s over too soon.
