The MRTI Agency – 2024 Year in Review

As we close out 2024, it’s the perfect time to reflect on an incredible year filled with music, connection, and creativity. From intimate performances to large-scale events, we’ve been privileged to bring live music to life across the region. This year, we presented 33 shows in partnership with 10 venues, including Charlotte Street Arts Centre, Dolan’s Pub, Gallery 78, and The Tipsy Muse CafĂ©. Seven of those shows took us beyond Fredericton, expanding our reach and connecting with new audiences. We were also proud to serve as a marketing partner for four fantastic events at The Playhouse, enhancing the live music experience in our community.

The year was full of memorable events and series that showcased the best of live music. In March, we attended the JUNOS in Halifax, a celebration of Canadian music and artistry. We worked with Fredericton Tourism and Capital Arts to curate Garrison Fest and the Officers’ Square Summer Music Series, bringing the beautifully transformed space into a vibrant hub of sound and community. July brought the annual River Jam Fredericton fundraiser, where 18 incredible local bands came together to raise the roof—and funds—for the community. Another standout moment was stage-managing the Highland Games concert, which featured unforgettable performances by The East Pointers and Morgan Toney. In addition, we delivered the Blues Series at Dolan’s Pub (Fredericton) and Water Street Dinner Theatre (Saint John), as well as the Fall Music Series at Charlotte Street Arts Centre, both of which were highlights for fans of live music.

Our work with artists continues to be a source of pride and inspiration. In January, we partnered with Josh Bravener & The Hypochondriacs for their live album recording and in September accompanied them to BreakOut West in Saskatoon where they had an official showcase. The Hello Crows also had a remarkable year, performing a collaborative show with Olympic Symphonium at The Playhouse in September and showcasing at Contact East in Charlottetown just to name a couple. Connor Fox celebrated the release of his album at Charlotte Street Arts Centre, and his performance at Harvest Music Festival was a huge success. We loved working with Paul Campbell on the release of his poignant song, “Song for Democracy 1984 Redux,” alongside a thoughtful interview hosted by Rob Pinnock. To round out the year, we produced a five-show run of Kenny & Dolly’s Christmas Tribute, bringing holiday cheer to audiences in Fredericton, Florenceville, Saint John, and Miramichi.

Looking back, 2024 was a year of growth, collaboration, and unforgettable music. From local venues to national showcases, every moment reminded us of the power of live music to bring people together. None of this would have been possible without the incredible artists, venues, audiences, and partners who supported us along the way.

Thank you for being part of this journey. We’re excited to see what 2025 will bring!

With heartfelt gratitude,

Let the tunes shake away those wintertime Blues

The MRTI Agency is back to throw a little ‘blues heat’ into the winter of 2025 with a line up of some of the Maritime’s finest talent. Last winter, this series brought together some of the region’s best known artists to serve up incredible evenings of soulful blues in beautifully receptive rooms all over New Brunswick. This winter, they plan to revive that same powerful energy for more unforgettable nights.

In January, Garrett Mason is once again set to cover some ground in the 506. While it’s true, Garrett carries the highly influential blues lineage that comes attached to the family name (Garrett is the son of blues legend Dutchie Mason), he is also entirely his own artist with a guitar style that has even the most seasoned of players scratching their heads in wonder. Garrett is one of the most captivating and thrilling musicians on the scene and a must-see for any fans of the blues.

Wednesday, January 22 at Dolan’s Pub, Fredericton (NB)
Saturday, January 25 at Water Street Dinner Theatre, Saint John (NB)

Blues veteran Morgan Davis has been playing the blues in Canada since crossing the border from Detroit in the late 60’s. He learned his trade by playing at the feet of some of the masters, and in turn, becoming one himself. This journeyman blues artist has performed all over Canada, US and Europe and has a list of blues honors as long as your arm. Legends aren’t born, they’re made from grit, determination and heart
three attributes Davis carries with him everywhere he goes and applies to everything he does. See him live in February on one of our stages.

Wednesday, February 19 at Dolan’s Pub, Fredericton (NB)
Thursday, February 20 at The Fire Escape, Grand Falls (NB)
Friday, February 21 at New Maritime Beer Company, Miramichi (NB)
Saturday, February 22 at Water Street Dinner Theatre, Saint John (NB)
Sunday, February 23 at Salty Towers, Saint Andrews (NB)

Blues delivered with a side of a powerful soul is what Theresa Malenfant has in store for you in March. This NB born powerhouse has been a blues staple in the Maritimes for decades, meanwhile, she has also performed all over Canada and in Europe too, where she still has a strong following. Malenfant has won ECMA’s, been recognized by the Maple Blues Society and has thrilled audiences wherever she has performed.  If you like your blues falling somewhere in between Janis Joplin and Aretha Franklin, then Theresa Melanfant is ready to take you on that journey.

Wednesday, March 19 at Dolan’s Pub with The Instigators, Fredericton (NB)
Saturday, March 22 at Water Street Dinner Theatre with Scott Medford, Saint John (NB)

In April, one of the most respected artists in the east, Charlie A’Court, wraps up our series. It’s a thrill to have this five-time ECMA winner and eight-time Nova Scotia Music Award winner take to these stages.  A’Court is simply one of the most respected artists to ever come out of the Maritimes, and this live show gives ticket holders a first hand look at every tool in his belt, including a commanding soulful vocals, stellar guitar work and a style of songwriting that speaks directly to the hearts of listeners. This is a show not to be missed.

Wednesday, April 23 at Dolan’s Pub, Fredericton (NB)
Thursday, April 24 at Connell House, Woodstock (NB)
Friday, April 25 at Huntsman Aquarium Dunn Theatre, St. Andrew’s (NB)

The MRTI Agency Turns One! Let’s Celebrate!!!

We are always looking for ways to celebrate our community and we don’t want this milestone to pass us by without a gathering!

This month marks one full year of operation for the MRTI Agency and we want to extend a special ‘Thank You!’ to those who have shared in our journey, by inviting everyone to join us for a special event celebrating our 1st Anniversary on Tuesday, November 19th between 6-9PM in Wilser’s Room in The Capital Complex.

Join us, Emma, Krista & Rob, for a wonderful evening recognizing some highlights of our inaugural year and hear music from our  impressive roster of artists, including Josh Bravener, The Hello Crows and Connor Fox, who will each be performing a few songs from the Wilser’s stage.

The MRTI Agency is an extension of the work Emma Chevarie started back in 2012 under the name, ‘Music Runs Through It’.  Initially, what began as a weekly live music listing, soon shifted to producing live music events, as Chevarie began to stage her own shows at intimate venues around NB, including the Tipsy Muse CafĂ©, where she first worked with Krista Touesnard and Rob Pinnock. Their collaborations included a number of Music Runs Through It shows staged at The Tipsy Muse and 2022’s Cold Snap Music Series, which featured concerts by Joel Plaskett, Meesha Brueggergosman-Lee and ChloĂ© Breault.

When Touesnard and Pinnock decided to sell their café, they knew the live music component of their business was something they wanted to continue, so by working with Chevarie to expand her brand to include artist representation, the three joined forces and The MRTI Agency was born.

In our first year of operations, The MRTI Agency has enjoyed much success including these highlights:

  • Signed our first artists
  • Produced a successful winter blues series and a fall singer-songwriter series
  • Staged two sold out “Kenny & Dolly’s Christmas Tribute” performances in 2023 at The Playhouse
  • Were part of the organizational team working with the City of Fredericton to program Garrisonfest and the Summer Concert Series
  • Co-ordinated the stage for the Saturday night ceilidh during the 2024 NB Highland Games
  • Represented our artists at the ECMA’s, Music NB Week and Contact East

We, the MRTI Team, hope you can join us for a night of fun, music, door-prizes, stories, laughs, and delicious cupcakes!

Fredericton’s Live Music Lineup (September 9-15)

It is a very large week for live music in Fredericton as the Harvest Music Festival arrives and brings all forms of joy to our community! It kicks off tomorrow night (Tuesday) at Officers’ Square at 6pm for Kulasihkulpa! to celebrate the opening of the Festival along the shores of the Wolastoq, the Beautiful and Bountiful River featuring performances by Grass Dancers, The Muskrat Singers, Judie Acquin, and from Abeqweit First Nation: DeeDee Austin.

The music will run through the downtown streets and venues all week and it’s no secret that this is my favourite week of the year. The weather forecast looks nice & calm and I encourage everyone to get out to experience some part of the festivities. There is so much to be enjoyed: tons of free programming, a children’s activity centre, buskers, food vendors, tent shows, pubs & club shows and so many smiles!!! Watching peoples faces light up listening to the music or when meeting up with friends or enjoying a tasty treat on the street – there is so much about this celebratory vibe that warms my heart.

It’s a challenge to list out every show taking place (there are SO many!) and you may want to download the Festival APP (click here) and check out some important links below to help you find your way:
